Chapters of Leadership: Settling Intro - pt.3

A Different Paradigm

Don’t judge my story based on the chapter you walked in on

Here is a confession - for a long time my paradigm for leadership centered around my willingness to step in and make a decision and give opinions - requested or not. What I have come to learn, through many years of failing, is this was simply a chapter in my leadership story - not leadership defining. And so, though this was a faulty paradigm, it was a necessary chapter in my story towards finding a deeper and richer understanding of what leading actually means.

I want to encourage you, regardless of where you are in your leadership story, to stop and recognize you are in a chapter of your ongoing story. Whether you feel you are making no difference, impacting on a large scale or somewhere in between, the canvas of your leadership is being colored in by each chapter.

Stay rooted ~

Deeper Roots

  • If you were to describe what leadership is to someone else - what would you say?

    • Based on your response, what does that reveal about the paradigm you have surrounding leadership?

    • How does that affect those around you?

  • If you are not currently leading others in some professional manner, how does your paradigm of leadership affect the way you interact and/or engage with those that lead you?

  • Are you able to look back on the areas in which your specific paradigm’s have changed?

    • How do you believe those have impacted where you currently are in your story?

  • How difficult is it for you personally to authentically embrace the moment of your story?

    • Do you struggle seeing others in different chapters of leadership and being disappointed with yourself that you are not there yet?
